Abstract

Yet a lot of doctors do not care about Attention Deficit Disorders with or without hyperactivity as a serious diagnosis. They tend to look on AD(H)D as a fashionable complaint, that people pretend to have in order to get the “drug” methylphenidate by prescription from the doctor. In consequence there is a lack of health care for people suffering on AD(H)D. They get prescribed other medication indicated for another kind of disorder or a psychotherapy focused on another diagnosis that doesn`t fit. This essay focuses on that most interesting syndrome that characterizes our present zeitgeist as hardly any other. Its therapy approaches become likewise controversial disputed as their diagnosis and etiology. But its symptoms, emotional conflicts and spiritual potentials document on a very vivid, symbolic manner the crises of our achievement-oriented society and chances for their overcoming.
