Abstract

The Playbacktheatre (PBT) is a fascinating method to make it possible that the narrator of a life history and the audience may experience what till now is “unheard” and “unlived” in a biography. Which prerequisits are necessary to let this happen? For the description and explanation of these processes the model of the continuum of consciousness and the model of the differentiation of states of consciousness is introduced. According to this model the PBT-actors learn to modulate their states of consciousness (“modi of presence”) between the state of everyday consciousness and the state of resonance in which a direct experiencing of mental processes of another person is possible.
