Belschners model of consciousness research - an explanation theory

Abstract

The relevance of Wilfried Belschner's theory of consciousness to the practice of playback theatre, an arts-based method, is discussed in relation to its development and rehearsal and performance practices. The author also suggests that investigating playback theatre as an approach to teaching about Belschner's theory and providing training in modulation might yield positive results.

Jonathan Fox

Dr. phil. h.c., co-founder of the Playback Theatre, director of the Centre for Playback Theatre in New York. He was the artistic and managing director of the original Playback Theatre Company since its founding in 1975; author of Acts of Service: Spontaneity, Commitment, Tradition in the Nonscripted Theatre; editor of The Essential Moreno: Writings on Spontaneity, Psychodrama and Group Method; co-editor of Gathering Voices: Essays on Playback Theatre. In 2008 Jonathan Fox was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. phil. h.c.) by the University of Kassel in recognition of his scientific and artistic achievements in the field of theatre pedagogy.
