Abstract

Islam is the youngest world-religion. 1.5 billion Muslims are living between Morocco and Indonesia. Islam developed different religious forms like Shia or sufism and others according to historical and social conditions. That is why there are also many different interpretations of the Quran. One problematic aspect of Islam is the fact that there is no unified form of religious teaching. Among other consequences in dogmatics and ethics for Muslim organizations in Europe it is complicated to adapt to hierarchical political structures.

Peter Heine

Prof. Dr., born 1944, Abitur in Warendorf/Westf. 1965, studied Islamic Studies, Ethnology and Philosophy in Münster/Westf. and Baghdad/ Iraq. Doctorate 1971 and habilitation 1978 in Münster. Professor of Islamic Studies from 1979 in Münster, founding director of the Centre for Modern Oriental Studies in Berlin. Professor of Islamic Studies of the non-Arab world, Humboldt University of Berlin 1994 - 2009: Islamic cultural history, especially of material culture, radical Islam, Islam in Germany. Recent work: Cultural etiquette for living together with Muslims. Freiburg/Br. 2017; Delicious Orient. A history of food culture. Berlin 2016.
