Research retreat "zeitgeist, values and consciousness"

Summary of the topics and results of the research retreat of the Research Field Applied Conscientiology from July 23 to 27, 2014

Abstract

This annual research retreat addressed the topic of “Zeitgeist, values and consciousness”. The aim was to address the issue of values from various perspectives. First, the relationships between basic human values and cultural values as collective expression were investigated. In addition, rhythm and music was a central element that served as a “mirror” for the study of cultural value systems, but also the temporal evolution of our cultures. The global view on different cultural manifestations and their relationships were studied by a systemic constellation work with seven countries / continents. Here the focus came on Africa, whose value system was perceived as diametrically different from that of the industrialized nations. This calls for visibility, recognition and observance being important not only for the selfesteem of the African continent, but also as an opportunity to (re-)balancing an over-emphasized rational value system of our own culture. The integration of trans-rational or spiritual values was identified as a complement to the rational requirements. The idea of steady growth was examined for its compatibility with the principles of life and the limits were discussed: The cancer-like growth thus refers not only to population, technology and waste, but also on financial markets, and more recently on the amount of information to be processed and the consequences for personal health. An attitude of frugalness could lead to a health-supporting trait of consciousness.
